Bread baked on the Cobb Grill

I decided to give baking some bread on the Cobb a try. I must say, it far exceeded my expectations.

I used coconut charcoal and got the grill blazing hot. I used the deflector plate and the rack. When it was hot, I quickly opened the lid and set the pie pan with the bread on the rack and immediately got the lid back on. I did not look for 25 min. When I did check it, it was getting done faster on one side, so I just rotated the least done side to the hotter area. It took about 45 min. to reach the desired level of doneness. I expected the bottom to be a little over done, but it was nicely browned just like the rest of the loaf.

The recipe was Rose's Hearth Bread, from the back of an old Better for Bread flour bag. It is a very simple recipe. terry

Yummmers! I had scones at the Oregon Gathering that were cooked on the Cobb... swoooon! The Cobb is so versatile. Bet it's not the last time you bake bread

If I could take unlimited types of cooking appliances along, this Cobb unit would be one. Alas, seeing I already have a great BBQ that will bake and grill, and does so with ease, I will just have to drool over the results of others rewards.

Wow. I'm impressed! I know we've discussed Cobbs here before, but I haven't been paying attention. I am looking for a way to do dressing for the Thanksgiving turkey (besides making ahead at home and heating in the Mickey-wave). Did not realize the Cobb was this versatile. Thanks for posting!

Hi Mary

Take a look at the Volcano stove as well. Volcano grills

We have one and swear by it.

Terry, did you add water to the moat or just bake the bread without any liquid? Looks perfect for Thanksgiving!!

No water in the moat, but I sprayed the bread with water. I did not know how long it might take for the all the water to evaporate and I wanted the crust to crisp up and brown.

Next time I think I will start with about 3/4 oz. of water to start and hope it evaporates during the first 10 min.
