I bought some of these Nonpareil Homestyle Dehydrated Hash Browns in the USA they are great! I can't find any here in Canada but I have a small shipment coming from the South. They store forever and are so easy to make you can add anything you like to them.

If I have a campfire, I usually wrap one or two small potatoes in foil and put them at the edge of the fire to cook them up for hashbrowns for breakfast. But I don't do a campfire all that often. These might be an alternative assuming you can do part servings and they can be reheated in a skillet (don't carry a microwave). Good find. It's worth a try for me, at least one time.

Might also be good as part of an "escape" box of food for emergency trips. Until you can catch up on shopping.

If you don't have a microwave ( I have one but no power) You can make as much as you want cover with boiling water for about 20 mins drain and fry, I bought a large carton (2qt. size) about one cup of dry potatoes = 4 servings I bought these at a war surplus store in Idaho.

We have purchased the regular frozen hash browns and then put them in the food drier for a couple of hours before storing in some ziploc bags for back packing.

That's another good idea. I could even vacuum seal the results for slightly longer term storage.

I buy the same type but different brand. They are fab for camping! Directions for the type I buy at Costco is to fill the carton with boiling water, let stand 10 min's then pan fry! I am currently out so I will have to post the Brand name after I get back to Costco.

Steve, the cartons are about the size of a milk carton (kids lunch), I can't see why you couldn't pour out half and re-hydrate only the portion you need.

The name is Golden Grill Russet Premium Hash Brown Potatoes. They come in an 8 pack.

So far, I haven't found them in my local Krogers. I've been assuming they'd be in the instant potato aisle. Just considering options until I run across them in another store. I have about 3 grocery store chains I frequent depending on where I'm coming from when I start for home. Two more to check...
