When my wife and I went to Rome last year, after going down to the breakfast room in the hotel and having espresso, I went back to the room and told her I was having an affair, with the espresso machine in the breakfast room.

I don't know what they do different in Italy, but amazing doesn't even cover it.

Yep, my experience in Europe as well. Even the average tiny hotel has superb coffee compared to the Hampton Inns and Holiday Inns over here.

This topic makes me realize just how addictive coffee is with the money we spend to import the beans, roast and grind them and then buy fancy machines to quickly get the perfect brew.

Remember the start of this thread featured a device similar to the Aeropress that holds K-cups as an option. So for those people who love those K-cups you too can have the same benefits of space and weight saving.

In the past I used the smallest size Melita style cone filter when going camping. But I developed a liking for stronger espresso type of coffee versus drip grind so I switched to the Aeropress about 10 years ago.

For me the real bottom line is that I am not going to include a space hogging, somewhat heavy, electric powered machine in order to make coffee. My trailer interior is only 10 feet long and my car is a 4 cylinder. I want to do extended trips where there is no shore power. My choices are solar, solid or fossil fuels. So my decision is a very practical one, the Aeropress wins hands down as the sensible choice for my needs, it weighs very little, is very small in size and it makes excellent coffee. Win-win for me

Aeropress is the best option for me. The most practical and I 'm happy with the coffee it makes me (or I make it myself) every morning and lunch time.

indeed! i use a halfsized paper towel to wipe off the 'stir stick', then after ejecting the 'puck' of spent coffee, i use the same paper towel to wipe any remaining grinds from the plunger, and its good to go for a second round. once every few days, I pull the plunger out, and wipe it down with a wet towel to remove any coffee oil accumulation. and literally thats it for cleaning.

Now I don't make espresso , but a strong cup of coffee using a collapsible silicone filter and #2 size paper filters.



On our last trip after we had changed to our "new" camper, I COULD NOT FIND that cone! So I used the paper coffee filter and dental floss and made a serviceable coffee pod.

We have used this little guy in the past.

GSI Outdoors 1-cup espresso maker.

Now we just use a 5-cup percolator and coarse-ground coffee.

You can get an espresso maker for a lot less money than that. Not stainless steel, but a lot cheaper.

Glenn, fershur, that’s expensive… but appears to be outstanding quality. I'd jump on the Walmart one… but just do NOT do aluminum

Well, that is a lovely offer, and so kind of you! I guess I will let someone else take you up on it though, because several folks indicate they don't mind aluminum. (BTW, I ordered the brake controller you recommended!)

My friend Lindy always makes "cowboy" coffee.
I bought a pot suitable for that at a thrift shop and use it to store unpopped popcorn.
