Size and price I'm guessing. I have the Weber grill. This extends it's use to smoking for about $20. I like building things and this is a fun project. I remember the Cobb discussions. Very clever as I recall.

My solution to ash build up is to block the ash with an open end can. I found a can that was 2" tall and 3 1/4" across. Cut out both ends and place it in the bottom of the Weber. It fits under the charcoal grate. As ash falls thru most builds up on the outside of the can leaving the air vents open. I think the can was a Frito bean dip can.

I think I read that somewhere. Good to know it works.

Yesterday I tried a can with holes over the air vent with mixed results. In the course of cooking a 3 lb London Broil for about 5 hours I still needed to clear the ash to maintain temperature, just not so often. Next I'm going to try a pie plate on top of the can to catch the ash .
