Turbo Cooker

Hi all,
Just purchased a Turbo Cooker at WalMart and have tried about 4 recipies in the camper. This cooker is very light weight, teflon coated, frys without oil, everything cooks in the same pan (even dessert) and the food was actually good. I would say that it is similar to cooking in a wok.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love my dutch oven and used to take it on every trip, but we have gotten away from it in recent years for camping. I still use my cast iron skillets and roasters at home but I got tired of the black soot mess and the weight added to the trailer, not to mention carrying around the bags of charcoal because wood fires are too unreliable to cook on.
Has anyone else tried the Turbo Cooker? I recommend it.
Karen

Turbo Cooker

Karen,

That cooker sounds really cool! :) I'll have to look for it at Wal-Mart.

We are always looking for ways to minimize the amount of stuff we cart around. Tell me, would this cooker be a good all-around pot AND pan? For example, could you fry eggs & bacon, cook pasta, and make pancakes in it? (Not at the same time, of course). How big is it?

Have any pics?

Thanks!

Turbo cooker

The first Scamp 5th wheel we looked at, the lady spent most of our visit praising her Turbo cooker. Went on and on about it. Meals took 15 minutes from freezer to table. We haven't tried one personally, but certainly might. :)

turbo cooker pic in Scamp

Hope this turns out. First time for uploading photo here. I just thought you might be interested in seeing the size in relationship to my 3 burner cooktop in the Scamp. I think if you do a search for turbo cooker on google you will get enough info.

I have made poached eggs, cooked chic and rice, beef and noodles, steamed vegies, deer stroganoff, pineapple upside down cake and chocolate cherry cake. I see no reason why you can't fry bacon and eggs, or make pancakes in it also.
I think that is neat about the lady who went on and on about hers while showing you her camper, could have been me.

yep

Thats where I got mine and that is what I paid. The current TV infomercial is asking $60 or $80, but it has a timer on the knob and an additional steam rack and more recipies. I tried bidding on several on E-bay before Walmart got theirs, and they were sometimes a little cheaper for used, but I'm happy with the Walmart Price.
I was curious about if a wok would work the same, so I got mine out and tried a recipe in it. It worked just as good as the turbo cooker except that the cooker is teflon coated and the wok isn't, so if you have an old wok in the closet gathering dust, get it out and I can give you a few recipies to try.

Wok

I was given a non-stick wok for Xmas last year, and the only place in my kitchen to store it is on top of the stove. Therefore, it has become the pan I use for almost everything. (I don't boil pasta in it, and I do use a griddle for hotcakes.) Probably very similar to the turbo cooker, which I might check out when/if the non-stick surface of the wok ever craters.

And here I've been so smug, thinking I was the only person on my block who cooks Italian food in a wok!

I even considered taking the wok in the trailer, since I have become so accustomed to cooking with it, but decided there's no place to store it, including on top of the stove! :wink

interesting, but.......

Yes Morgan, a chef can probably make anything with little or nothing, while I on the other hand have to have things spelled out for me.....:reye2 ...
I will agree that the veggies I steamed were on the crisp side, but then, that is the way I like them, half raw, so I was happy. Thanks for the link to that article, though, but I'm glad I have it and thats my story and I'm sticken to it.

Mary,
That is why I got the Turbo Cooker, because I liked the idea of being able to eliminate every other cooking utensil (except the coffee pot of course..:E :E ). I don't eat fried food at all and if I did I wouldn't want that mess in the Scamp, and I liked the idea that I could use it for baking too. I need to try bisquits in it sometime.

I wouldn't have been able to fit it in any cabinet except the big one, which I put shelves in to hold towels and my box of spices. I guess we could always tye it on the back and look like a gypsy wagon going down the road ;) .

Karen,

I have no opinion one way or the other concerning the Turbo Cooker. My reason for posting the URL was to point out another view for people who might be considering the Turbo Cooker, but who were not yet invested in it. :)

I'm culinarily impaired so such a device is of no interest to me. All I need is a coffee pot and a pan in which to heat chili or soup. Even a wok is beyond my limited abilities. :hap2

Do you know what a wok is?

It's something you twow at a wabbitt. :cblob
