Fifth Gear: VW Touareg Tows A 747 - YouTube

Probably a lot like the setup for Toyota towing the shuttle.

Towing the 747 is one thing, stopping it is another! Thrust reversers rule!

Love it, Roger- including the bird! I'm still laughin'...

So I found this video over in one of the other forums I frequent. It was posted in the same discussion as a member who tows a 16' Bambi AirSteam with his new Golf. Here is the thread BTW He does have a WDH, but I'm not sure which one.

Well he must be OK, afterall: A) world renound CanAm did the hitch and gave it's blessings and The owner stated that he "Tested" it for sway in an empty parking lot and C) It's his first tow ,so he doesn't have to know what's right.....

My question: How did he get up to a towing speed of 100kph AND have an 18 wheel semi pass him at 130 kpm, so he could do a real world sway evaluation in that parking lot?????

My suggestion would be to ban further towing capacity discussions.

Better idea would be ban Internet Trolls -who we seem to have a few of these days,

Whats Is an Internet Troll:

"An internet 'troll' is an abusive or obnoxious user who uses shock value to promote arguments and disharmony in online communities. Named after the wicked troll creatures of children's tales, an internet troll is someone who stirs up drama and abuses their online anonymity by purposely sowing hatred, bigotry, racism, mysogyny, or just simple bickering between others. Trolls like a big audience, so they frequent blog sites, news sites, discussion forums, and game chat. Trolls thrive in any environment where they are allowed to make public comments."

Jason, wow, thnxs for posting. I have always been a fan of good handling smallish cars and the diesel VW Golf seems to work great with trailer in tow.

Last year well known naturalist David Suzuki traveled across Canada in a VW Golf TDI/trailer combo. There was a one hour special about the trip on the tube. No question about it. The Golf's perform. The 30+ MPG when towing is nothing to laugh at either.

Who "he" ?

Never mind- the answer's the same regardless, but you'll have to watch "Back to the Future" to find out what it is...

With the right setup by the right outfit, Tim, the TDI can tow the same unit as the Touareg in my threadstarter, here reproduced in case you missed it...

That is amazing considering that rating is based on towing a trailer without a WDH.

I believe some modern mini vans have a 2,000lb tow limit when used without a WDH.
