A man is flying in a hot air balloon and realizes he is lost. He reduces height and spots me down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts:
"Excuse me, can you help me? I promised my friend I would meet him half an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."
I reply, "Yes, you are in a hot air balloon, hovering approximately 30 feet above this field. You are between 37 and 38 degrees North latitude, and between 79 and 80 degrees West longitude."
"You must be in IT," says the balloonist.
"I am," I respond. "How did you know?"
"Well," says the balloonist, "everything you have told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost."
I say, "You must be a project manager"
"I am," replies the balloonist, "but how did you know?"
"Well," I say, "you don't know where you are or where you are going. You have made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. The fact is you are in the exact same position you were in before we met, but now it is somehow my fault."

Version #2
ABQ Balloon Fiesta conversation, Full o' gas!
A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He
reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended
a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help? I
promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I
don't know where I am."
The woman below replied, "You are in a hot air balloon
hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are
between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59
and 60 degrees west longitude."
"You must be an engineer," said the balloonist.
"I am," replied the woman, "How did you know?"
"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me
is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make
of your information, and the fact is I am still lost.
Frankly, you've not been much help so far."
The woman below responded, "You must be in Management."
"I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"
"Well," said the woman, "you don't know where you are or
where you are going. You have risen to where you are due
to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which
you have no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath
you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly
the same position you were in before we met, but now,
somehow, it's my fault."

Or there is this one....
After having dug to a depth of 1000 meters last year,
Scottish scientists found
traces of copper wire dating back 1000 years and came
to the conclusion that
their ancestors already had a telephone network more
than 1000 years ago.
Not to be outdone by the Scots, in the weeks that
followed, English scientist
dug to a depth of 2000 meters and shortly after
headlines in the UK
newspapers read:
"English archaeologists have found traces of 2000 year
copper wire
and have concluded that their ancestors already had an
advanced high-tech
communications network a thousand years earlier than
the Scots."
One week later, Texas newspapers reported the
following:
"After digging as deep as 5000 meters in West Texas,
scientists
have found absolutely nothing. They have therefore
concluded that 5000
years ago Texas inhabitants were already using
wireless technology."
