Smile Lazy Mary

I remember a song whose melody sounds Italian.
The words I remember are:

Lazy Mary will you get up?
She answers back, I am not able.
Lazy Mary will you get up
We need the sheets for the table.

I think egg owners could sing it like this:

Lazy Mary will you get up?
She answers back, I am not able.
Lazy Mary will you get up
We need the bed for the table.

Both versions are very funny in that it appears Mary can fall asleep almost anywhere as long as it's on something that's needed for something else. I'm told this sometimes happens with pool tables. In the army, I was occasionally wont to sleep on the warm hood of a Jeep. The warnings I got to get off were short and I'd say not particularly musical.

Just give lazy Mary a spin in the bed, and she becomes lazy Susan.

We're a select crowd! And by that I mean, the "crowd" consisting of those of us who admit to knowing this tune...

Lazy Mary

The tune I know is this one:

It is listed as a "nursery rhyme", and isn't as hard on poor Mary.

This reminds me of a quote my dear deceased father was fond of:

Get off the table, Mable
The quarter is for the beer.

Smile Mabel

The Mabel one I know goes:

Mabel, Mabel sweet and able,
Get your elbows off the table.

I don't know if it is part of a longer poem or not.

Hmmm...!

"You were not born in a stable-
Get 'em off the table, Mabel!"

It is now!

And Shirley contributed just the right chorus:

Put them all together:
Quote:

VERSE:
Mabel, Mabel sweet and able,
Get your elbows off the table.
You were not born in a stable-
Get 'em off the table, Mabel!

CHORUS:
Get off the table, Mable
The quarter is for the beer
.

The words I know are:

Mabel, Mabel, sweet and able
Get your elbows off the table.
This is not a horses stable
But a first class dining table.

A variation of this is here:
