Lost Dog!

Well this summer we camped near the highway about 500 ft in off the road just out of sight. The road sound carries quite well, a traveling band of Harley bikes went by they rumble like thunder. Bear 5.5lbs of hair was spooked and ran into the bush. He goes through the rocks, up an incline like it is flat ground boy can he run. Could not keep up he was off like lightning (pardon the pun). In distress called my wife on the phone she text-ed the family on her blackberry we had her brother, sister, niece and Friends on the hunt for Over and Hour My wife said I should have unleashed Leo as he barks and would find Bear. (did not like the idea of two lost dogs in the bush)

Turns out he was two places over shortly after he got loose.<_< Walking down the highway calling his name was called over they had him! or the boy did upstairs in the barn. (did I mention Dad was packing the car)

Today he has a medical alert tag with his name and phone # on it. Bear takes medicine twice a day to keep him healthy.

WHEW!

That was close...

FYI:

I put a tag on my dog describing my rig so that if I'm out-and-about and she wanders off, folks in the immediate vicinity can connect her to me.

She's of course microchipped, but what good would that do if we (or the alternate contact) are 500 miles from home?

Francesca

I just bought Jack a new collar with his name and my cell phone number- I wish I'd thought to also include Campster! But another option is to add a temporary tag at each campsite that says "E51 Campster" or whatever your site and trailer is. I have not (yet, knock on wood) lost Jack in a campground but it could happen. (It happens at home once in awhile as he likes to check out neighbors' compost heaps or chase rabbits if he gets loose- never goes far but I wanted a way for whoever found him to reach me in case he ever did. ) He is chipped but that doesn't do much good in the middle of a campground.

Oh, yes.. link for collar: http://www.gotags.com/

FYI:

Many Walmarts have machines that will stamp tags- I had this one made for about four bucks:

That dog is SO CUTE that I'd be scared to death that somebody'd keep him no matter WHAT the tag said!

My dog Millie's pretty cute, too, but as I posted on our sister site, IRV2, she's a really Bad Dog!

He has a white front and tags discolor it. I've used tag pockets but he is also in and out of the water a lot so those get soggy. That's why I like the name on the collar. I like what your tag says, though, good for travels.

I have those dog collars for each of my dogs. It has the dogs name and my cell phone number on it. I also have clip on tags with my site number and campground name on it just in case one jumps the fence and runs off. Yes, my dogs are also microchipped.
If someone finds one of our dogs and wants to claim it as his own, none of the above will work. If someone walks into a veterinarian for a check up with our dogs, and says it is his dog, there is no way the veterinarian would think to check for a microchip. I do what I can to keep mine safe and near me at all times. They are my family.
