Mobius Strip
One last amusement...
<img src=http://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/uploads/3dffd21373381e-mobius.jpg/>
The ants above are walking on a Mobius strip. So even though one ant may be above or below another, they are still on the same side!

<img src=http://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/uploads/3dffcfcf11fbfMobius4.GIF/>
This curious surface is called a Möbius Strip or Möbius Band, named after August Ferdinand Möbius, a nineteenth century German mathematician and astronomer, who was a pioneer in the field of topology. Möbius, along with his better known contemporaries, Riemann, Lobachevsky and Bolyai, created a non-Euclidean revolution in geometry.
Möbius strips have found a number of surprising applications that exploit a remarkable property they possess: one-sidedness. Joining A to C and B to D (no half twist) would produce a simple belt-shaped loop with two sides and two edges -- impossible to travel from one side to the other without crossing an edge. But, as a result of the half twist, the Möbius Strip has only one side and one edge!

Well that wasn't quite what I thought a mobius strip would be, but it does make you think. Being a sewing person, I have created a few of these by accident. thanks Michael.

Klein bottle
The next level up in strange topology is the Klein Bottle. Unlike its cousin, the bottle, it has only one surface. A bottle has two surfaces; an inner surface and an outer surface.

JJ, You need to use a better search engine. In my opinion, google is the best by far.

mobius
Hello Jana,
Being a sewing person myself, I need to ask if you have ever sewn, knitted, crochet or crafted a mobius scarf. They are quite a bit of fun. If you would like, I have instructions to make a mobious scarf from chiffon, and for a knitted version, and will be happy to share. Let me know.
My winter project (right after Christmas) is to make slipcovers for the Casita to match the new quilt I acquired last summer. They will be the color of chambray blue.
Here is a scan of the ninepatch hotpad I finished just yesterday!.

Sure, Lacy (I love your name), I can crochet, but not knit, but I'd rather sew. so now why would I want a mobiius scarf? it's not a mistake? all mine were oop'es. had to take them out. send instructions. e-me or personal m me which ever is eaiser.
that potholder looks hand quilted, Lacy. very nice. I plan to do cushion covers, too. but I think I'll have to have a louder color, but I don't think it will be yellow, you can do too much of a good thing, but it will have to go with it as I have a gold stove top. the 70's you understand. I better get that garage cleaned out so I can get to work on the trailer. but this is so much more fun. Spring is going to be so fun this er-ah next year. I need to be ready.
have a happy one!!

Scarf
Hi, Lacy & Janna & Michael!
This is Jacquie, lurking on the edge of Fern Ridge Lake, Oregon, fifteen miles west of Eugene. Bill and I are giving CPR to "Tilly" a 1978 Trillium. The old girl is looking spiffy: New curtains, reupholstered cushions, upgraded propane system, new wiring loom, series 29 deep-cycle battery, and the Port-A-Potty is in its designated spot. The new fresh water system is in progress. Bill enjoys messing about with these projects.
She took us for a terrific long weekend to Mt. Rainier, WA. Arrived home with additions to our list of things to do: You know how that is!
We had a slight setback: during the after-trip cleanup, we found that the curb side frame member had broken in two. Six bolts, one propane disconnect and one electrical disconnect and the egg shell comes off the frame. We have found a very competent frame repair shop and in no time, we will be "on the road again." :)
I saw your posting in reference to the Mobius Strip. I would love to have your directions for the scarves: fabric, knitted & crocheted. I think I have seen this before, but can't remember. I am a seamstress by trade, and knit, crochet, read, sail, make beaded jewelry, in my spare time, and of course, 'Get Away' in the Trillium.:wave :wave
Merry Christmas to All!:xmass
