Comedian Jeff Foxworthy compiled a list that helps people determine whether they're from the Pacific Northwest:
1. You know the state flower (Mildew)
2. You feel guilty throwing aluminum cans or paper in the trash.
3. You know more than 10 ways to order coffee.
4. You stand on a deserted corner in the rain waiting for the "Walk" Signal.
5. You can taste the difference between Starbucks, Seattle's Best, and Veneto's.
6. You know the difference between Chinook, Coho, and Sockeye salmon.
7. You know how to pronounce Sequim, Puyallup, Issaquah, Oregon, Yakima and Willamette.
8. You consider swimming an indoor sport.
9. You can tell the difference between Japanese, Chinese and Thai food.
10.In winter, you go to work in the dark and come home in the dark-while only working eight-hour days.
11.You never go camping without waterproof matches and a poncho.
12.You have no concept of humidity without precipitation.
13. You know that Boring is a town in Oregon and not just a state of mind.
14. You put on your shorts when the temperature gets above 50, but still wear your hiking boots and parka.
15.You have actually used your mountain bike on a mountain.
16.You buy new sunglasses every year, because you can't find the old ones after such a long time.
17.You use a down comforter in the summer.
18.You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit under a raincoat.
19.You know all the important seasons: Almost Winter, Winter, Still Raining (Spring), Road Construction (Summer), Deer and Elk season (Fall).

That's not fair. they get five seasons. we only get two. Hot and Cold. except for that day in between the two that is just right. Happens twice a year. Missed the first one this year. I was in Texas. Now I got to wait two or three more months. :wak

Jana, there really is only three seasons..Almost Winter, Winter, and Still Raining (Spring) are really the same thing...rain, rain and more rain. It's hard to believe Central Oregon is having many, many big forest fires this year..I never thought we dried out enough for a tree to catch fire!:umb

My friend lives in Hoquiam Washington. They get 144 inches of rain a year. That’s 12 feet of rain.:o

He called me the other day and remarked that he didn’t know what that big yellow thing in the sky was, but he didn’t trust it. I laughed until my sides hurt. :sunny

He works in the Mental Health business – and business is good on the Olympic Peninsula.

Actually, Washington state has a small but very legitimate, real live, actual rain forest, and I've heard of similar rainfall amounts for the area on PBS. Another rain forest exists in southern Alaska.

I moved up here for the weather (and the boats) thirty years ago, and missed my rain everytime we got stationed in too hot/sunny places like Cal and MD.

But the state is full of microclimates, so less than 100 from the rainforest you're in the rain shadow, with only 25 inches of rain a year. :wave

Actually, Hoquiam is located in the 80-100 inch band. But just a few miles north, they get over 180 inches per year!
