Just thought I would start a thread about sayings and quotes about life.Heres one I enjoy.

An Old Cowboy's Advice

Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.

Keep skunks and bankers and lawyers at a distance.

Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.

Words that soak into your ears are whispered...not yelled.

Meanness don't jes' happen overnight.

Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.

It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge.

You cannot unsay a cruel word.

Every path has a few puddles.

When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.

The best sermons are lived, not preached.

Most of the stuff people worry about ain't never gonna happen anyway.

Don't judge folks by their relatives.

Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.

Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't botherin' you none.

Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.

Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.

If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

This, from an Inuit stone carving on my desk:

"Never listen to anything but yourself
Lest you be bitten by something frightful."

And my own personal philosophy:

You may not live long enough to finish the lima beans of life - so eat the dessert first.

Chester,
I was thinking about that GPS retirement gift and remembered this:

A Definition....Success is ....

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.

This is to have succeeded.

Dad used to say,"If somebody wants to give you a bucket full of manure take it, you can always use the bucket"

When I told Granny the girl I was going to date wasn't very good looking, she would say, "if looks is what you want, looks is what you'll get"

"Good fences make good neighbors"

Mark Twain-- "The only one that likes change is a wet baby"

A friend of mine when you said, nice day, he'd say "they're all nice days, if you don't believe it, try skipping one"

This getting old ain't all its cracked up to be, but it sure beats the alternative

My grandma used to ask me what kind of day I had, was I the Seagull or the Rock today? For years I did not know what this meant. Finally one day I asked her and this is what she had to say. "Some days you are the Seagull flying high in the sky and diving for fish. Other days you are the rock the Seagull craps on, thats just life." So now I sometimes say to people that are complaining about their day. "Some days you are the Seagull and some days you are the rock."

Just buy your kids some boots and they have to find a deeper puddle! That's really a good thing. Life is full of dangers!
