Tall Tales

Armadillos sleep in the middle of the road with their feet in the air. There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 live in Texas. Possums will eat anything. Racoons will test your crop of melons and let you know when they are ripe. If it grows, it sticks; if it crawls it bites. When you live in the country, you don't have to have a dog. City folks drop 'em off at your gate in the middle of the night. When the world ends, only cockroaches and mesquite trees will survive. Only four types of spices are used in Texas: salt, pepper, ketchup and Tabasco. Deer season is an unoffical state holiday. The wind blows at 90 mph from Oct. 2 until June 25, then it stops until Oct. 2. Onced and Twiced are WORDS! Fixinto is one word. Roadrunners do not say "Beep Beep". Gumbo is not a Cajun stew. It is black mud, which at one time in everyone's life here, manages to get their vehicle stuck in it. Robert Elling
