Thanks for the heads up.. this is a fun movie to watch, especially in a camper on a rainy night... (These are ET zone times).

Watch for the switcheroo on tow vehicles. A genuine car guy pointed this out to me, I’m a rookie.

Thanks, good screen capture, I should have thought of that.
To bad the writer of the book passed away before the movie came out.

Judging by the size of the trailer I would not be surprised if they went though a lot more than just two tow vehicles during the making of the movie.

About 15 of us watched it at our group camping weekend at the beginning of October. For those haven't seen it it's well worth it!

A Lincoln was used in place of the Mercury for the mountain road scenes because the Lincoln had a more powerful engine, which was really needed for that situation. Also note the dolly under the trailer tongue so there was no tongue weight on the car.

I wonder if that would solve the Subaru tongue weight limitation? lol

I read (on the dvd cover) the year, make and model of the trailer, And that it weighed 3 tons. I had also read previously that the car wasn't actually doing the towing. I'm not sure what they had rigged up. Karin

The grade the rig was ascending is located just west of Big Pine California. It leads to Glacier Lodge in the Eastern Sierra Nevada. It has been improved a bit since the movies was filmed.

Great movie but don’t think nothing beats Robin Williams emptying his black tank in the movie RV.

Who hasn’t picked up a few rocks? When I get home from a trip I use a paint pen and label the “bottom” of the rock with the year and where I got it. I have about 50. When I officed with the downtown horticulturalist years ago, he had a thing for glacial till. He liked the ones that weighed between about 8 and 20 lbs. He would frequent where the operators were working and pick a few up. He had quite a rock garden at home. He had a very modest home but his unending practice of tending his landscape material won him the “Best looking yard in Cedar Rapids.”
He’d come in with a new rock and put it on my desk and say “Hey Smitty, how do you like that coconut?”
He grew up in the coal mining country in south central Iowa and knew Simon Estes personally. “ Lived just down the road”
