While in Banff, Ab I had the opportunity to read a book about the building of the great hotels and railroads through the Canadian Rockies. Several issues were the switchbacks and the bears. It seems that during the switchbacks grain would spill along the tracks. Bears would eat the grain in such amounts that the grain would then start fermenting in their stomachs the bears became inebriated. Many a bear would then challenge the locomotive for the tracks right of way.

That would be me! Color me jealous. We have wildlife here in our major east coast city, but not bears. I'm hoping to catch some with the cameras when we head to ontario next month.
