Okay, one thing we can all do to help get back that homey feeling is to put your avatar back. Just in case you forgot, here's a guideline.

First, make sure your picture meets the following specs:

Your avatar must be no bigger than 75 pixels by 75 pixels in size. Uploaded avatars from your computer must be no larger than 8 KB.
The following file types are allowed: gif .jpeg .jpg .png

Okay, now that you have a picture ready,

Click on: My Controls

Click on: Edit Avatar (left, bottom)

Go to: Upload a new image from your computer

Hit browse

double click on image (that is already resized)

Click on: Update Avatar

Then return to the forum.

If something happens you don't see it, hit your refresh button.

NOTE: If I made a mistake in my instructions, let me know and I will edit them.

Bingo---got my avatar back. I thought about changing it, but this picture of Tommy looking out over a valley with rain and the colors of rain in the distance I named inspiration when I first saw it. --- Thus, I thought it should remain here as that is how I feel this morning.

Just got here on the West Coast, logged in, and could not believe how many people have started to bring this forum back---won't take long!

It is still the great forum I thought it was when I discovered it the first time.

Mine happened to be intact, along with other aspects of my membership data.

Don't forget to check your board settings for the correct time in your zone. When I initially logged back in, mine was set to something about Casablanca time

Along with the site, the admins and moderators were yanked about too....that's why I showed up as the "newest" member...I had to reregister. Good thing I still had my avatar...I would have missed that hottie and no one would recognize me

Good to know the members are fine

Al, it helps if the dpi is no more than 72 dpi. Quite often if someone tries to use a pic they've taken with a digital camera, the dpi will be 150-600 dpi...WAAAAAY to big. My avatar is only 4k

I wonder why some stayed, and some didn't. Was it just the mods?

Mine was uploaded from my server, not my machine. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Yes, they are showing on my machine. Freds is too. Morgans did as well.

My sig picture is a direct upload from one of my servers, so he/she/it couldn't get to that.

Looks like the avatars reside on MFROG tho. Maybe Michael pummeled the children before they got that far.

I'm getting what you're getting, Diane.

I don't know if there's a pattern to why some member data was destroyed and other was left alone.

Thanks, Suz, for thinking of putting the Avatar Recovery instructions on here.

Donna, I was in Casablanca when I reregistered, too!

It was a whirlwind trip!

Now that's interesting....I went back into my post and added the information about the signature. When the topic redisplayed...a bunch of avatars were missing. Refreshing didn't help either.

My membership information appears to be intact, and I see lots of avatars, which led me to guess that membership data had survived -- but apparently it is not complete. I don't use an avatar, or signature line, so the fact that you don't see them on my post is not a problem.

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.

Okay, I have to stop going to work, this thing was working last time I looked. Now I am checking to see if I have an avatar still. I don't know if i still have the photo I used since I lost 3 years of digitals when my hard drive broke.

Great! now I am just a rectangle with an X

This IS interesting. I had to reload my avatar and photo, but the rest of my membership data remained intact. I'm not seeing Gina's, Al V's, Dave's or Frederick's avatars. They're all the box with the x. Everyone else is showing up for me.

I'm running IE 6 on a P4 with Win2k.
