I don't understand how to include bulleted and numbered lists within my posts. I like using bulleted lists. I want to use them because they are great clarifiers. (I'm also afraid to waste a post trying so I would appreciate a quick tutorial.)
Simple answers would help me a great deal. For example, I list a few lines, select them and then click a bullet button, but up pops a "list" box. List box??? What list? What am I being prompted for here? I'm not importing a list. I already typed it on the page. This kind of thing is what spooks me.
OK. So I'll try doing that right now.
Red Burro's are nice
Blue Burro's are very nice
White Burro's are the nicest.
No good. I get a script pop up window that asks me for a "list item." Have no idea what is expected of me. So I cancel. Help me.

Myron, Instead of typing your list on the screen first,
Click on the little bulleted list icon.
Type your first listed item in the popup window, and then click "okay"
A new (blank) popup window will display; type your second listed item, then click "okay"
Another new (blank) popup window will display; type your third listed item, then click "okay"
When you have no more items to list, click cancel (or okay, without typing anything in the window).
Send your post.
Try it out here... for practice.

- Type your first listed item in the popup window, and then click "okay"
- A new (blank) popup window will display; type your second listed item, then click "okay"
- Another new (blank) popup window will display; type your third listed item, then click "okay"

Ok, thanks, Mary, and here goes..... - Human events cannot be measured by Burros alone
- The course of the Burro must not be interrupted by neo-con-cerns.
- A busted burro brushed aside my biddle bank account
Holy Chicago, looks like it worked! Thanks for that.

The guide is now in Basic Website Tutorials (thanks, Mary ) but here's another tip:
If I have already typed my text, then decide I want it to be a list...
Code:
Here's something I should have put in a list. And another thing.
... I just add a list without any real content (like just the letters "a" and "b" for items...
... then paste my text into the right places...
Code:
- Here's something I should have put in a list.
- And another thing.
The result is my list:
Quote:
- Here's something I should have put in a list.
- And another thing.
|
A list can always be extended after it is finished by just adding another [ * ] (no spaces) and the next item
If this makes sense to you, it can be a handy trick. If not ... just ignore me!
I didn't attach this to the Basic Website Tutorial topic, because I didn't want to risk causing confusion in that context.

I have tried out methods by starting to compose a post, using the Preview Post button to see the result, and then just not saving it - I go back or link to somewhere else without clicking the Add Reply (or Post New Topic) button.
Mike or the moderators can comment if this is appropriate or not.

So Brian, you're saying brackets indicate insertable html code, and the asterisk represents a bullet, and the backslash indicates ending the code. Much obliged.
Let's see, now, - A trillium is not necessarily a flower.
- A boler is not necessarily a hat.
- A casita is not necessarily a little Spanish house.
- A burro is not necessarily an ass.
Painful doing all those brackets, but think I get it.

Hand coding isn't difficult, just tedious. You MUST remember to close all codes with a backslash code or your post will not be like you're expecting If you end up with a mess, a missing backslash code would be the first place to start looking.
When I have a BUNCH of hand coding to do, I use a text editor like NotePad or WordPad to compose my text with codes, then copy 'n paste into a topic, thread, etc.

Sometimes I just get a code in my node.
There are times when I find "hand coding" quicker than stopping to use a mouse click, since it is all keystrokes.
But jusk ask Robert; my middle name is " Tedious"
