if search worked then less new thread repeated topics

Every time I need info I must start a new thread on topics that I KNOW HAVE BEEN DEALT WITH MANY, MANY TIMES. "Search" never brings up anything related. Any suggestions before I start another thread on advise to clean Scamp's rat fur and carpet?

Are you using "Site search/Google" at the bottom of the drop-down search menu on the website? That works pretty well for me; the other search options (including the one in the app) are useless.

or just use google.. with your search term and the qualifier "site:fiberglassrv.com"

Google Advanced Search works well also.

Just ask Donna D if she remembers the discussion. She can find anything.

Mary you give me too much credit. Yes, I do remember a LOT. But, I'm stumbling now because of the screen names. Who in the 'el can remember someone who posts with a wacko name? Post who you ARE and I'll remember.

So... what EXACTLY do you want to know about Rat Fur? I'll help if I can...

What I know is that sometimes searching isn't easy, especially as the database grows. Remembering a key term (or even guessing it) can make a big difference on information retrieval. Using too many terms, or too few, can pull in results that are useless. You've always had a knack for successful searching, Donna.

And, yes, the Google Search is much better than the "search" that came as part of this system software.

Okay, I did the Google Search for cleaning scamp interior, and found this (which looks promising):

Cleaning the Rat Fur.

And another (shorter) thread on the same subject:
Cleaning Interior Wall Fabric Scamp.

It also helps if words are spelled correctly, with no typos.
Of course, that also applies to the original post.

When I try to search a specific topic, I get a listing of EVERY topic for that day.

At one point I would get an option to search just the forum, or to do a Google search, but now I don't get that at all.

This makes it very difficult to search previous discussions.

I typically use a Boolean search. Everything needs to be a minimum of four characters. IF you don't have four characters, use a wild card... an asterisk *

AND, I don't usually use the FiberglassRV search, I use the FGRV Forum Custom Search that Mary has in her signature:

https://cse.google.com/cse/home?cx=0...95:46zkzu4-jj0

It still gets to, if you can't find what you're looking for (AND you HAVE tried), just ask the knowledgeable members here on the forum. Plus, you are welcome to send me a PM at any time. I'll gladly help if I can. But truly, there's a wealth of knowledge right here with the membership.
