I tried to add a couple of images into a post I just made and got an error message. Here's the full spiel:

THE FOLLOWING ERROR(S) WERE FOUND

You are not allowed to use that image extension on this board. A valid format is: http://www.domain.com/picture.gif, an invalid format is: http://www.domain.com/picture.one.gif

This turned up on the Teardrop forum and I thought some people might like to see these molded fiberglass* trailers from Turkey - Soykar Caravans.

<img>http://www.soykar.com/galeri/TN_Untitled-176.JPG</img> <img>http://www.soykar.com/galeri/TN_Untitled-167.JPG</img>

They do look mighty strange, but maybe they're just an acquired taste....

(Yes, my original message had square brackets around the 'img' tags, but if I put them in here, Invision won't let me post this message!)

Is it the JPG in capitals that Invision doesn't like, as I can't see what else it is objecting to? Not the underscore '_' surely?

I've noticed this problem before, and capitalised file extensions are not uncommon, so can it be fixed?

In the meantime, I added the photos to the post as file attachments and then inserted the attachments into the message - which works but is not exactly convenient.

Looking at the code, I can you Andrew it doesn't have anything to do with caps. The problem is you are trying to link an image from another site. That's not allowed on FiberglassRV, except in signatures.

There's a couple of reasons for this

1. it can be a bandwidth hog for this site, and

the biggest reason... 2. if that site goes away so do the pictures. We prefer to hold pictures on this site for perpetuity. Uploading images to FiberglassRV accomplishes this.

EXCEPT when a hacker deletes the upload folder And webguy has fixed it so that won't happen again

Aaaahhhh! Now I understand!

Is that error message ("You are not allowed to use that image extension on this board.", etc) built into Invision? If not, it would be helpful if it could be changed to say external images are not allowed - this isn't what I would think "not allowed to use that image extension" means.... Or can the 'insert image' button be disabled?

All valid points. It boils down to one size doesn’t fit all and that is how the software is built.

I just hired a programmer to fix the viewing problems on Internet Explorer (which my wife uses on her Mac) that Invision could not take care of for me.

I am finding that this software is getting so complex that unless you have current operating systems, both Mac & PC, and current more secure browsers, it will be buggy.

I don’t know just how much resources I can throw at this. The key problem is that as soon as you pay to have the bug researched and fixed, they come out with a new security patch and replace all the files you had fixed.

Probably too much information, sorry.

I will continue to do my best to make this the best I can for everyone.

Mike,

Given the issues you bring up, I don't think it's unreasonable to request users to have current or near current software. Browser upgrades are simple, and I'd be happy to help anyone needing a hand with that (at least for Windows).

The bottom line is you do what you can do. Don't worry, I think you're doing a heckuva job.

BTW, thanks for the stickers. I am now a bone-fide labled FGRVer.

(Oh, and would you please move the [ Add Reply ] [ Preview Post ] buttons a little to the right. Just kidding! )

That was one of the trade offs in fixing the IE problem, sorry.
