yikes that was a royal PITA to get in here.

There is no way from the outside to contact anyone in here if things are not working. Everything is shut down to tight. Cant check membership list to see if your spelling your member name wrong or just not remembering it right, cant contact anyone for help etc etc etc.

Apparently the "forgot my password" section of the board is not working. No email was ever sent. Requested pass word hour or so ago.

Anyway..... finaly found an old email someone sent me that happened to have my user name listed and then figured out my password.

Admin.....

ok Rant off.

what HAS worked for me in the past is having some (one) of the board moderators email addy close at hand and contact them direct for possible help/assistance.

This has saved my Canadian Bacon MORE than once and I thank those who have helped me (in the past) VERY MUCHLY!!!

I've found the secret to remembering passwords is to decide when and where the important ones need to be used....the rest are KISS. All the fiberglass forums fall into KISS. After all, no one here knows my full name, where I live or any financial information about me. So perhaps for KISS, I use my telephone number + my initials, my dog's name, but the O turned into a zero, etc. and I try to use the same password on all the forums. A post it note with JUST the password stuck on the monitor helps too No one knows what website it's for.... how's that for encryption?

There are some things a person really needs to sweat over, passwords for forums shouldn't be one of them.

My college professor recommended the following for KISS passwords. Use the first letter from each word in an easily remembered sentence.

For Example:
My dog peed on my trailer tire

Becomes:
mdpomtt

Generally you to want to convert similar letters to numbers so i -> 1, b->8, o->0 etc.. so then the final password is:
mdp0mtt

Also, the "I've forgotten my password" function can only send a new password to the email address we have on file. If that is not up to date, the email goes nowhere (or to an old address you no longer use).

Please, please, please, please, please everybody, if you change email accounts, go into "My Controls" here and update your address with us.

The way this IPBoard software works, giving us your email address will NOT make it available to spammers. And, even if you check the option to allow email to come to you from the board, the address itself is masked so that it does not actually display; the person sending email to you can only get your address if you respond to them via email. (This is why we are constantly reminding people NOT to post their addresses in messages on the board! It's not necessary: people --not spammers!-- can contact you if your email preference allows it.)

Okay, now my rant is OFF! Y'all have a great day!

Clarification: If you give the "optional" info in the ___ identity fields (such as AOL identity or Yahoo! identity) these will display in your Member Profile.

If your email address and your Yahoo! identity are the same, then obviously your email address will be displayed.

The Internet is constantly changing. The Software companies are trying to keep ahead of the Hackers and SPAMMERS. Now the Major servers are also getting so many complaints, they are adding filters to keep down their work loads on this.

Some of the major servers are implementing filters to stop "Server" generated emails. When you ask for your password, some servers like AOL, Earthlink, and SBCGlobal will not send them. Also, if you are on AOL and use the AOL browser, it will Stop the verification email.

We cannot control what the servers or your computers do. If you are having trouble, send an email to me and I will fix your account so you can get in and then you can modify your settings the way you like them.

My suggestion is get a Gmail account (Yahoo is pretty much the same). It is FREE and AOL, Earthlink, & SBCGlobal will not interfer with Google's email system. With a Gmail account you get a large storage capacity, great Spam filtering and no one will mess with your email. What server wants Google on their bad side? You can still keep your original email address, just have it redirected to Gmail.

Good Luck.

I keep a hard copy file folder and when I sign up for a new forum I print the information page and write down any pertinent information such as logon and password and reminder question. Now if I could only find the folder.
