New Classifieds Page Next Week

I wanted to let you know about a big improvement to the site that will be introduced in a few days - a Proper classifieds page.

Currently we have a forum area for classifieds and there is no charge to place ads but the interface is a little hard to use. It's even tougher for folks searching to purchase something.

Next week the link at the top of the forum to "classifieds" will be rerouted to our new classifieds page (instead of going to the classifieds section of the forum). Member ads will be displayed there and it should be a much better interface. There will also be sorting and editing tools. It will still be FREE.

We are also introducing two factor authentication on accounts for those placing ads (verification via sms) to discourage scammers and increase security. When you place an ad you will be asked to verify your account via text message and while we know this is a little headache it will help keep everyone secure.

The Classifieds page will feature an interactive map with pins displaying the approximate location of items for sale.

When the new page goes live we will move the most recent ads to the new page and then close the existing classifieds forum. Posts will still be visible for a time but no new posts will be accepted. If you have an item for sale at that time, you are welcome to reload the ad on the new classifieds page.

Great idea! Looking forward to using this new, improved Classified Ad section. Thank you to the folk(s) making this happen; you are appreciated.

Sounds like a good move, be interesting to check that out. Do have to ask though if there will be a time limit for ads to run and then be removed, sold or not. Unsold units can be reposted but it would eliminate newbies from asking about old posts, just sayin' .

I second this motion and can the site fix the posting photos issue? More people are using smart phones for photos so it's a growing problem.

Both issues will be addressed. The ads will auto archive after a time and members can ed their ads, mark them sold, etc without having to get the site team involved. There is a photo editor as well
