Click on the name in the top left corner of a message box and a list of choices will appear. The second choice in the list is "Send a Private Message". Click on the Send Private Message".
A form will appear that will allow you to write a message.
I clicked on your name and sent you a message. AN incoming message in the upper right hand corner of this page and will show the number of messages for you to read. Click on the private message and you'll be able to read the PM.

I think 'message box' is where I'm confused. On this message that you sent me I touched your name but no list came down. I went to the market place to respond to an ad. Touched the name but the only thing that happened was the ad became larger, no drop down choices. 😕

Peggy, when you click on a member's username in any post they made, you will get the following drop-down menu, click on send a PM, and write your message to send.
Or, if you click on their photo, it will take you to their member info page, and under 'Contact Info'you can send a PM from there too.
Norm, thanks for being the guinea pig here.

Are you signed in? I noticed messing with it that I could not get the drop down list but could go to the members profile but again, no option for messaging was there and then I signed in and everything was working as it should. Make sure you are signed in.
Another thought is that on some forums, a new member has to make a certain number of posts before they are allowed to send private messages. I don't know about this one but it is to help prevent people from coming in and spamming.

Peggy,
On the message I sent you you need to more than touch it, you have to highlight it and click on it or do the equivalent of hitting enter.
Cathy is probably right, you may need to sign in to the web site. I did not think of this because I stay logged in all the time.

Peggy, are you using the FiberglassRV app, or Safari? (I see you are posting from your iPhone.)
What folks are describing is how it works from a browser (on the iPhone, that would be the Safari app).

From the FiberglassRV app it's a little more trouble to send a message.
First, you have to get back to the list of options on the left. It may mean backing up several screens, 'til you see the forum index (list of forum sections) and the little icon in the upper left corner that is a stack of lines.
Click on the stack icon and it should bring up the left most list of options. Once you've chosen "Messages" you should get to a screen with a pencil icon in the upper right corner.
Click on the pencil and it opens a window for composing your message. Alas, it looks like you must type the username of your intended recipient...
If I find an easier way (or better details), I'll post again... Honestly, though, for sending a PM, you'll probably like the interface better from within the Safari app.

Ahhh. When you get the compose screen (in the FiberglassRV app) there's a "plus" icon on the upper right. Clicking on that will give you list of members to scroll through...
Good luck with it!

Private Messaging
Messages are simple on the app. Click on the poster's avatar, which takes you to their profile. Click the envelope icon in the upper right, and message away!
If you aren't looking at a post with their avatar, go to messages in the main menu, click the pencil icon, and start typing the user name of the person you want to message. As you type a drop-down menu gives you a list of possible matches. Click the person you want, and message away.

I'm not sure, Mary. In every post, I see an avatar and user name above the post. I'm using the iPhone app- perhaps the Android version is different?

Ahh, okay. Thanks, Jon. It's the little envelope icon in the upper right corner... once I find the recipient's profile.

I deleted my comment, Jon, because I wasn't doing it right - I am also on iPhone. Then I found what you meant... Obviously I never much use the app.
I'm going to poke around and see if there's a help file for the app- More and more we're getting new members who never much use a computer!

I actually started writing one... I think I still have it on my computer somewhere. If you're interested I could e-mail it or post it somewhere.

Awesome idea! The forum software is based on Tapatalk with a very similar interface. The colors and graphics are a bit different but basic functions are the same. More info is always a great help

So true, Mike, and not being an early adopter myself, what I do know is usually obsolete about the time I approach proficiency!
