why all the paid ads in individual posts?

Recently (in the past week or two) I have been seeing quite a lot of posts that contain "ads by google", in addition to the big ad space at the top of every page. I find them to be quite distracting and annoying, and my computer at work sometimes refuses to display the page because of blocked ads.

What is the reason for this, and is there any way to turn it off?

Also, my display when I open a forum post no longer contains the whole page, so I constantly have to scroll left and right to view the content. Is there a way to adjust the view so that the whole page displays?

Thanks,
Rick G

Weirdly, I just noticed that the ads only appear when I am viewing the website as a guest. Once I log in as a member, the ads no longer appear either at the top of the page or in the individual posts. I usually just view as a guest unless I have something to say, but I guess I will have to log in from now on to enjoy the benefits of membership!

I just stay logged in, unless the site logs me out on its own for some reason. Not sure I know anything about making the posts fit your screen again.

On screen size, ( actually text size ) hold down the Ctrl key then the - key will down size or the = will enlarge. Holding down the Ctrl key and the 0 (zero) will return it to normal.

Does the screen thing happen all the time or intermittently? If there is a large picture in a thread it will skew the display as you describe. We try to catch those and downsize them, but some sneak past us...

I just logged out to see what this thread was about. (I'm set up to log in automatically).
Wow! What a difference. Huge ad at the top. About half a dozen bold links to ads under your sig, Mary R, and several other posts, but not all, in this thread.
None of this is visible when logged in as a member.
Now I see what the thread is all about by logging out.
