That's too bad. To many, Yosemite is the "crown jewel" the National Park System of the U.S.

So be it ;-)
We visited 8 NP till now.
Another question, about the 4th of july.
We intend to kamp on the KOA Kampground in Petaluma (SF) june 28 - july 2
Thats means that we have to find another kampground for the weekend of the 4th of july.
Do you think it is necessary to reserve a site (coast north of San francisco) early?
The KOAs have still sites available.
I mention KOA because I am accustomed to their reservation system.

It is always good to make reservations especially when you are close to a metropolitan area and it’s a Holiday Weekend.

We were able to take Lex and Rita out to dinner last night for a Santa Maria Style Oak Pit Bar-B-Que with all the trimmings. This restaurant has a wood fired Pizza oven that they cook fresh home made sourdough little loafs of bread every day. It is an all you can eat deal on the bread. I could fill up on just this sourdough bread with a slightly smoky flavor. “Oh Man is it good”. We went to a little western town called Crestin, CA. It has 5 bars and no gas stations. he,he. There are lots of working cattle ranches and cowboys in the area. Also, where there aren’t cattle ranches there are wineries. A bottle of J.Lohr went really well with our dinners. Boy what a wonderful couple.
There just isn't enough time to spend with them. If you get a chance, make the time to spend with them. You will be greatly rewarded. I wish our yard had room for them to park here.
The weather here has been just perfect - highs in the mid 70°F Blue skies with a slight breeze. I'll let Lex share with you when he get WiFi.

OK, it is true. Lex has been losing weight.
Lori and I have taken it upon ourselves to remedy that problem. Tonight we went to Scotty’s Bar & Grill in Pismo Beach, CA and had their wonderful fish tacos followed by Ice Cream Sundays.
Wow, the time flew by. We just got home.
Thank You Lex & Rita for a great time. Be safe as you travel north.

It was really a pleasure :-)
We 're in Monterey now, Fairground RV Park.
All campgrounds along hwy 1 are full :-(
Isn't there a way to serve travellers for who it is not possible to make reservations long before?

Our State Parks generally hold back several sites for travelers but they are taken pretty quickly. It used to be that they were all first come first served but then they went to a reservations system which now forces us to make reservations and doesn't allow for just meandering around. I hate having a schedule and hate the reservation system.
It pretty hard in the summer to just wander along either the California coast or Oregon coast without reservations.
Private parks are another story, don't know about them.

Hi: Lex& Rita... There are more people living in California than the entire country of Canada!!! It must be hard to stay anywhere there without reservations.

Not sure about Hwy One, but there are some enroute campsites at some state parks.

Because people said not to miss it, we are going to visit Yosemite yet. ;-)
We found some spare days before visiting San Francisco and KOA has room for only 2 nights.

Good! You won't regret it! (You may regret, however, having to drive across the Central Valley again, which is now hot, hot, hot---and probably high humidity.)
We look forward to your Yosemite photos. (This is where Ansel Adams took many of his famous photos.)
Probably this is already on your itinerary, but, whatever, don't miss Yellowstone N.P. on your trip of the northern tier. It's another jewel in our N.P. system.
I get a kick out of Lex---he's sounding like a real Californian---"some of the major highways are in rough shape and the State campground reservation system is lousy". Remember, I'm a native Californian and agree with every comment! Ha!

Pismo Beach State Park has an overflow camp just north of the park. It is always FULL by 4pm or 5pm. California is just over whelmed with tourist and visitors, especially along the coast, every summer.
With California's financial problems, The camp grounds are low on the priority lists. Prisons are being emptied, Fire and Police are being cut back, School teachers are being laid off. The Central Valley Water Supply, where most of the produce of the US is produced, is reduced and farmers and not farming most of their land. It is a mess.
I could go on and on but this is not the thread to discuss it and it gets off topic.

We 'll do our best :-)
Btw, I wonder how userfriendly this KOA is.
When I did make the reservation, only for two nights a site was available.
At arrival I ask the lady if a third night (friday - saterday) is possible now.
The answer was: no.
After installation I tried KOA's reservation system again.
Surprise, surprise, I could make a reservation for the same kind of site as the one we are on now.
So I went to the office to ask if we may stay friday on our site.
Here is the for me astonishing reply: Check out friday before 11 am and check in again, then you will get a new site!
:-((
We 'll see what friday will bring.

They probably had a reservation on file for "your" site with someone else for the extra day you're looking for.
I use the KOA system, and I don't remember if you can request a specific site for an advance reservation, but they may have repeat customers who know that park and only want certain specific sites...

I didn't ask for the same site, just for an extra night.
Btw, their wifi is also very unreliable. I did spend 2 hrs to get 18 photo files uploaded, eventually. :-(
Mike, I spoke with a lady at the desk.

We 've been directed to the most remote (from conveniences) site, with direct access to hwy 140
KOA Kampground Mariposa is not a welcoming experience :-(
