A little camping oasis in Central WA

Scootney Reservoir south of Othello in Central Washington is a Bureau of Reclamation campground - a little gem midst the agriculture fields of central Washington. With only 37 camp sites, it feels more private than the huge state park at Potholes further north. It's first come, no reservations, water near sites but no site hook ups for water or power. Most sites well spaced with privacy plantings very well done. It's a fishing lake, lots of acres of sagebrush, roads to wander down, a huge grassy day/picnic area. Very popular among 'local' folks of Central WA. It made a great place to stay & explore near by Hanford National Monument and Columbia Wildlife Refuge. We only intended to stay a few nights, but we both got sick with a horrible respiratory bug and ended up staying 10 days! It was a wonderful home away from home to get well, do some canoeing, and go exploring. We enjoyed the birds, the beautiful trees planted in the campground, not so much the rattlers - which we only saw on the road when we were in the car!

Hi Anne! Retired - does that mean a lot more escaping for you & Molly!?

Our trip was a great trip (except for being sick) and it would be an easy area for you to explore - not far from Portland. Lots of doggies in the campground, so I know they are welcomed - just watch out for the rattlers if you walk the roads (that's why we go east in spring and fall, but there were a few on the roads sun-seeking out of hibernation).
