That is my plan the ferry is booked for the morning of Saturday June 26th. I have a wedding in Whitehorse to be at on July 4th, and although the ferry is expensive it saves a lot of time. It's been on my bucket list for years so I'm ok with the cost.

A conversation that I just had with a friend made me remember that, when you are travelling north in fire season, there may be days when the road is closed and you are not allowed to progress. If that happens, stop and enjoy the day!!

Unfortunately due to the dry winter and spring we have had this year in BC the odds of that happening this summer due to wild fires are fairly high.

We just got back from Dawson City, Fill up in larger towns rather than the lodges along the way. Most lodges run on generators and YOU will be paying for the costs involved. We hit one lodge and didn't notice the price until it was too late. $1.75/L compaired to $1.16 in most larger communities. Remember its about 4l/US gallon.
The Yukon goverment parks are a steal at $12/ night with free firewood. Most are fairly small but are very well kept. We stayed in a couple, Big Creek was very nice but only about 12 sites. Commercial sites are about $35/ night.
If your heading to Dawson City and you have a Parks Canada yearly pass, it will get you into a lot of the sites there.
Liard Hot Springs is very nice and well worth stopping for. Try to get there earlier in the day if you are planning to stay in the park as it seems to fill up fast. There is a lodge with camp site across the road (with hookups).
If you are heading north to Dawson City you HAVE to stop at Braeburn Lodge for their cinnamon buns (about 10" round ) and their huge sandwiches (one will feed 2 people).

I just finished the Alaska portion. Crossed the top of the world highway and am camped in the $12 site across the river from Dawson city. Tomorrow we go explore
