Aloha State Park severe tree loss
I received an email from Michigan DNR and confirmed the information with Google News.
Aloha State Park near Cheboygan Mich. has been badly hit over the winter from the Emerald Ash Borer. Park forest and campground is about 85% ash trees.
They had to remove 400 trees this spring so they are warning folks that it will look different.
They did know Emerald Ash Borer could happen and have planted about 200 trees over the last 5 years in anticipation of this possibility but it hit them fast. Trees that were healthy last summer had bark falling off over the winter.
Really nice part of Michigan to visit so don't want to discourage folks from coming to our state or the Cheboygan area for a visit but thought I would give a heads up that things will look different at this park than they did as recently as last year.
