Just made reservations for this weekend for site 5 at Stone Mtn. GA. campground. Anyone camped here before? Is this a good site? Anything special to do there? As always thanks in advance.

Hi Don
My parents have stayed there a few times with their 28' & 35' Airstreams. They were full-timers for 8~ years, and liked Stone Mountain as a stop on their way back from Florida, so they could see friends in Atlanta. I don't know the sites, but it is a well cared for park, and the walk up the mountain is fun. It's a 20 min. ride to much of downtown Atlanta, which has a nice art museum, The High, a civil war Cyclorama, Jimmy Carter's presidential library and an MLK memorial. Enjoy.

Don,
You will enjoy Stone Mountain. The park is nice and we are looking forward to another visit. You may wish to check out the MARTA system, 2 stations are near the park. Better to ride than drive and park in Atlanta.
Site #5 should be a good site, below the road and level. I was in site #412 and drove thru this section, you are near the bath house.

We have camped at Stone Mountain on two occasions. We loved camping there.

The first time we were alone and swore never to return because it was so expensive when compared to the regular private campgrounds and stste parks.

The second time was with my sister and brother-in-law and they insisted that was where they wanted to stay.

Well we spent the weekend at Stone Mtn. and had a blast. The management and staff were great, the word no is not in their vocab. Lots of nice Free touches like Saturday morning donuts, coffee, hot coco, and juice. Sunday morning contenental breakfast. They had a fire for marshmellows in the fireplace due to the fire ban from the recent lack of rain.

The park had tons of things to keep us happy, pool, beach, golf, riverboat rides, sky cable rides to the top of stone mtn. just to name a few.

We will be making this trip again
