Interestingly enough, there web page says they camp year round, but I called this morning and they said ''no winter camping''... instead they gave me a number of a place in Truckee called Coachland. there website looks pretty good and the people there said ''pull in anytime, ya don't need reservations this time of year''

We had lunch two years ago at the picnic ground just in front of the Donner Party statue. It was kinda creepy - but it tasted like chicken.

Yeah, I can't imagine winter camping would be encouraged there. The story of their namesake may be the reason.

The sierras are spectacular in the winter tho.

I would stay there but I hear the mosquitoes will eat you alive.

OK, OK.. I am off to my room...

Yup, you gotta really watch out for those winter mosquitoes. They're likely to bury you in a snow drift to save you for later.

I just checked out their web site. The state site indicates visit year around. If you look at the activities you'll see summer includes camping but camping isn't included in winter activities. Reserve America indicates it's closed to camping.

I guess the Donner party didn't believe in the closure.

(heading for my room)

I think Martis Creek campground is open year round. No hookups as far as I know. Been 2 years since I've been there and heard that there was to be some upgrades.

Martis Creek is just on the edge of Truckee on the way to Northstar. Good place to ski.

Hmm, some comments on this thread lead me to believe it should be moved to the Food and Recipes Forum. Then we could discuss the Jeffery Dahmer Microwave Cookbook and stuf like that!

Meanwhile, I'm off to my room...

PS Is it true that they did an autopsy of Dahmer and found Judge Crater?? I can't find any mention of it on Snopes.

Donner is always a fun name to use at a restaurant when you'll be waiting for a table.
