Bear Creek Lake State Park, VA

Huevo's first camping trip was at Bear Creek Lake State Park in Virginia, just southwest of Richmond.

Price was about $22 per night with water and electric, if I remember correctly. Showers and restrooms were very well maintained. We did a little bit of hiking and also enjoyed the archery range. We didn't spend any time on the lake, however. Our trip was primarily to join a train excursion from Dillwyn, VA, just twenty minutes down the road from the campground.

A great outing, and the intermittent heavy rain didn't get in our way much at all. We were very thankful to have Huevo rather than our old tent, especially given all the rain. We would have definitely gotten wet in the tent.

@Greg

Greg,

The Rav4 averaged 20mpg. I'm very confident about that figure because I filled her up on the way out and on the way back.

As far as power goes, no problem whatsoever. Also, I never really felt the lack of brakes. I didn't make any panic stops, however.

Best,

Rick

Twenty two dollars is very reasonable for Virginia. The last time we stayed in Virginia was several years ago at Kiptopeke State park just north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Out of state, registration, and dog fee put a tent site over $30. Since then we just pass it by. Raz
