campground recomendation Deland, FL

I will be doing a teaching circuit in August that will take me to Deland, Fl then to Friendship, IN then maybe to Minneapolis, MN.
I will be pulling my camper along rather than eating up my profits in hotels for this trip.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good safe campground in or around the Deland FL area? I am looking for a family oriented place where it would be safe to leave my camper during the day while I am teaching these classes that week.

Any good recommends will be very appreciated. I would much rather find a place where someone says, " yeah I have stayed there before and its an OK place than just pick a place out of a travel guide.

ADMINS, I am not sure this is in the right sub forum. If i have it in the wrong place please move it.

Thanks,
Ray

I have visited Blue Spring State Park several times, but always stayed in the cabins (pre-Eggcamper). This is a beautiful Park! The location is 5 miles from Deland.

I have stayed at the KOA's in Daytona Beach and was satisfied, going to be hot though in August.

I second Letitia's recommendation for Blue Springs. We tent camped there several times and enjoyed it. Definitely family friendly.

If you are up for a further drive, then also nice options are Lake Louisa and Wekiwa Springs. We have stayed at many Florida state parks, and have always felt secure. I don't think you can go wrong.

But heed Jim, as August is going to mightly hot and sticky. Be on the look out for volatile weather too, because hurricane season heats up in August.

Thanks folks. You all are great. I appreciate it. I am used to the heat and humidity. My part of MO is like that in August. Hot and you sweat setting in front of a fan. lol.
I look the website for Blue Springs and see if I can make a reservation.

You'll enjoy Blue Springs.

And I'm sure bug spray is already in your bin of necessities.

Ray,
I have only stayed in Blue Spring SP during the winter months when the Park was full of manatees.....but since you are traveling in August, you may swim, tube and kayak/canoe in the beautiful crystal clear water. You can even scuba dive there.
I have tent camped, pop-uped, cabin-camped and now Eggcamped in many Florida State Parks over the past 20 years and I have never ever had any problems.

It will be after reading that. Maybe I should get me a bug zapper too and one do those high tech sonic repelling devices.

You all pretty much have me talked into blue springs. I looked on their website and I did not see any fees listed. How much is it a night to camp there in a pop up camper?

Also do they have a shower house and a place that I can do a few loads of laundry?

Thanks,

Ray

Welcome to Florida State Parks
Fees are listed on their site, along with a lot of other information.....click on the links/tabs. Reservations are through ReserveAmerica.com
I do not know of any Florida State Park campground that does NOT have a shower.....some do have washers/dryers....not sure about Blue Spring but I'm sure if you give them a call, they would be happy to answer all of your questions.

Completely agree with Letitia, every FL State Park we've visited had hot showers, and I can't think of any where I've been and didn't see washer/dryer and large sink/basin.

Some photos of our Dec'06 visit. Great hiking trails and wildlife viewing.

Thanks Letita! Hope to run into you and the Eggcamper in FL one of these days. It's a big state in a small world!?
