Campgrounds near Milwaukee, WI

We're going to a family get-together in Milwaukee towards the end of this month. Does anyone know of any good campgrounds not too terribly far from the city?

Interesting... I was just wondering the same thing the other day. My wife and I have friends in Milwaukee and used to camp out in their driveway. They sold their house, so now we are looking for something else.

We have stayed at Bong State Park. It is about 30 miles from Milwaukee near Kenosha. Very private sites.

There is a nice campground north of Racine, WI, which is about 20 miles from Milwaukee. I believe it is called Cliffside Park and is part of the Racine County Park system. There is also a Yogi Bear Jellystone campground in Caledonia, WI, just off I-90/94 north of Racine. The Milwaukee State Fairground also lists an RV park on the grounds in western Milwaukee, but I don't know anything about what it is like.

We just made reservations at the State Fair site... it's pretty close to where we need to be. I'll write a report when we get back.

According to the one review online, don't ask for a jumpstart from the guy at the registration desk! Just kidding... Have a nice time.

A good portion of the park has no shade...

The current temps could make it a but uncomfortable.

Otherwise, it is a wonderful place to stay.

Oh, and until further notice, no fires.

Bong was very shady where we were, and we don't use campfires, so that is not an issue with us. However, it is a bit of a distance from Milwaukee for you anyway.
