Camping in northern new england

We are from Maine and have been all over with our pop up (RIP) and our Scamp. Our favorites: Lily Bay State Park,, Moosehead. Casey’s Spencer Bay camps, also Moosehead. Lamoine State Park has great access to Acadia. The new Schoodic Woods campground (part of Acadia) is fantastic. Small but very sweet is Lake St. George State Park. Great lake swimming.

I agree -- the national park campground at Schoodic Peninsula in Acadia NP (east of Mt Desert Island) sounds like the kind of camping you like. My husband and I went to Acadia in early June. MDI was great at that time of year---it apparently gets very congested in July and August. The national park campground at Schoodic has RV sites that were fully booked even on weekdays in early June. Those sites are suitable for bus-type RVs. What they failed to tell us is that their "tent sites" have electricity and water and there were vacancies among them (in early June). There were a number of smaller trailers at the tent sites. And the RV station has a dump station. There are no showers at the campground. The peninsula is gorgeous!

We camp a lot in the White Mt. National Forest in New Hampshire and been to a few state campgrounds in Maine, Rangeley Lake State Park is a great place to camp.

I prefer to cross the border and either do Nova Scotia or PEI.
