CAMPING IN SALIDA, COlORADO

We recently camped at Four Seasons campground in Salida and very much enjoyed our stay. The folks there are super friendly and accommodating. They have three tiers of slots and the ones on the bank of the Arkansas River are gorgeous, but are more expensive. There are plenty of good restaurants in Salida and for the flyfishing enthusiasts several fly shops. I would highly recommend Arkansas River Fly Shop.

Another campground is about ten miles upstream from Salida, called Hecla Junction. Right on the river, with a hiking trail along the river. Far from the Salida conveniences, water and restrooms only, but very nice.

There is a road along the east bank of the river, north of Buena Vista, with a short tunnel (or two? I forget). Did you go exploring up that way? Just past the tunnel there's a popular boondock area on the left side, and I stayed there a couple of nights a while back. Nothing special, but in a pinch...

Hi Mike. That’s County Road 371. We’re just back from our annual bike ride along the Arkansas River in Chaffee County CO. I love it up there, among the Collegiate Peaks.
