Coos Bay Oregon campgrounds
When I'm in Coos Bay I stay at Sunset Bay State Park, but thinking of going elsewhere since the OR parks are charging more for non-residents (least they were last time I looked).
Been looking at the Oceanside RV Resort as well as the Bay Point Landing. Both on Cape Arago Hwy and close to my friend's place. Mill Casino/RV is on the other side of town from her, so probably won't stay there.
Was wondering if anyone has stayed at either of those places and what they thought about it.
Thanks much!

I have stayed at sunset bay and really enjoyed it. Now that non residents are charged about 30% more to stay there, I would have to think about alternatives also. I know nothing about the two places that you mentioned, so i cannot address your original question. Check out Bastendorff beach county park which is near Oceanside rv resort. It looked like a nice campground and it has beach access. I would probably stay there the next time I visit the area.

Thanks Wayne. Is Bastendorff the one right off the highway that you can see as you drive by? I was a bit confused when I was looking at the website for Oceanside RV as it didn't seem to be the one I had viewed from the road. But if it's the county park, then that would make sense. So, I appreciate you posting, if only to sort out (some of!) the confusion in my mind.

Bastendorff is next to Oceanside rv resort but closer to the cape arago highway and easier to spot as you drive by. The beach is further away from the campground but seems better protected from wind.

Thought we had stayed in that area in 2018 but actually we had stayed about 50 plus miles north of Coos Bay beyond Dune City in a small private park called Lakeside RV Park I think. The memory grows hazy after driving 10,000 miles on a trip.

Coos Bay
We stayed at Sunset Bay State Park with Full Hookups in October. It's an awesome campground close to a beautiful beach and wonderful trails. It didn't seem 30% more was that big a deal for a short stay because the campsites aren't that expensive (something like $33 / night for a full hookup site). So, maybe an extra $10 / night. That's about the price Oceanside RV Resort starts at, so maybe no savings by going to a private RV park.
If interested, we have some of our pictures on my blog:

Thanks for the heads up.
I guess being Canadian we won't be staying in OR state parks anymore.
$33+$10 plus 25% exchange? NO thanks!

It depends on how you look at it. Why should Oregon give you a 25% discount on your camping fees just because you paid in Canadian dollars ?
The price is $33 USD no matter what currency you choose to use .

I ended up booking at Bay Point, so we'll see how it goes. I declined the further expense of a golf cart rental. HA! The overall cost came to a bit less than it would have been at Sunset as they give a discount if you stay 7 or more nights (which I was already planning on doing).
I am looking forward to trying out their saltwater pool. When I've driven by in the past during the off-season it wasn't too full, so hopefully it'll be the same when I'm there and I won't have to worry about anyone else in the pool as it's not super big.
I'm visiting a friend in Coos Bay that's been social distancing like crazy. I'll self isolate (more so than I've been doing all along) for two weeks before I head down there, as well as getting tested for covid. Just to play it safe. We won't do any of our usual sightseeing, shopping, restaurant visits - just hang at her place and yak up a storm.
I'm way down on the list for a vaccination shot, so I won't have that before I leave. Don't know where she is on the list since she's higher risk than I am.

You obviously don't get the point.
Not looking for 25% discount. The extra $10 non resident fee just tips the scales.
By the way, am quite OK paying the exchange rate.
Thanks for the Friendly reply.

Fortunately or unfortunately charging higher fees to non residents seems to be gaining momentum. Our local county park is looking at tacking on a non resident entry / camping sur charge for two reasons
1) To generate revenue after years of budget cuts
2) To appease the don’t tax me for anything crowd
I read your post as written and I apologize if what I read was not what you were trying to convey .

Stayed at Bay Point Landing last fall. Not cheap but very nice! Beautiful water views. Easy and safe place to slip in a kayak when tide is in if so desired. Nice facilities to use once beyond pandemic.

Thanks Kevin. Yeah, for an OR resident, it would be more expensive than the nearby state park, esp for one night. But, for me, and for 7 nights, it'll actually be less than the state park.
I'll follow up on my visit there.
