Smile Custer state park in the Black Hills

We will be traveling to the Black Hills next summer. Would like to stay in Custer state park. I know they have several campgrounds within that park. Looking for recommendations. Thanks in advance.

I stayed at the Lodge Campground in mid-September. Very clean and quiet. Modern restrooms and showers. The Lodge itself is less than a mile away. Resturant/bar. While I was there, they had a presentation in the theater each night. There is also a small convenience store/ souvenier shop just a few miles west.

Drive carefully; wildlife all over.

Morning in the campground

We plan on returning next summer also. The boys were young when we were there so it has been awhile. It will be the first "real" camping trip since we have basically have only lived out of the camper at the same campground where my husband works.

If you are going the first week in August you will be disappointed as that is when Sturgis takes place and everything cost's 10 times more. I stayed at the KOA in Badlands NP- probably the closest thing to being on the moon you will ever experience. The Badlands are breathtaking and there is a nice 50 mile circle route that takes you to Wall Drugstore
( the South of the Border equilvalent in advertising) anyway that is my opinion.
