Dallas to Denver to Moab to Dallas

Looking for some advice, We are going to take a little trip up through Denver and Moab.

We are leaving from Dallas around the 1st of Nov, We will take 2-3 days to get there, travel through the pass for about 4-5 days and then 2-3 days to get back to Dallas,

I know the weather is turning cold, We are in a Casita and it does very well in the 20-30s and colder if need be but the only tanks below the unit will not be in use and the inside will never fall below freezing, we will always have the heat on at the coldest night portion so we would only be towing during the warm of the day. I don't anticipate any issues there, we have been in those temps many times. First time through this area though.

Do you recommend starting in Moab to Denver or Denver to Moab or does it matter.

What is on your must see list, We are not hikers or climbers, We usually spend a few hours in the parks looking around and then relax and take in the scenery. Love waterfalls but cannot hike to them. We do have some e bikes and are willing to bike a few miles here and there.

Any Campground recommendations, Not looking to save money, We will pay to enjoy the experience.

Any advice welcome.

Denver to Moab

I’d go Dallas to Denver…then to Moab. The sooner you are over the passes the better. Weather in the moab area can be nice even in the winter. You can run into bad weather south of Moab near Monticello. Just pay attention to the weather.

I would second that.

I was leaning towards that route anyway so I think I'll stick with that advice. Definitely gonna keep an eye on weather, We have no definitive plans so if a winter storm looks like its kicking up, we will head out.

We just returned from a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer (a train from Denver to Moab. Moab is a great place. Must see, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. We saw them from a 4x4 tour. We saw parts of both parks only seen by 1% of visitors.

Moab Camping and Travel

William’s Bottom is a USFS campground north of Moab. Dry camping on the Colorado along red rock cliffs. Small campground away from the off road trails.

Beware of weather. One of worst storms we ever encountered was north of Moab early November. Over 6 hours to go 100 miles with out camper.

South of Moab you can pass through Valley of the Gods, Monument Valley, Goosenecks State Park, then down to Navajo National Monument and four corners area.

You need to check to see what is open. And again watch the weather. Been in a bad wind storm at Goosenecks in our Casita. Took 2years to get all the red sand out of crevices in camper.

You can go back through Mesa Verde also. You probably need to expand your time table. All very pretty. Good luck and enjoy.

(We live in Teton Valley Idaho so we have a pretty good appreciation of storms.)

Yep, we have given it some thought and we decided on Florida instead. We are heading that way in June of next year anyway. I've been stuck in stuff like that before and it's just not worth the risk even a small one. I'm sure we would be alright but I just don't want to deal with it.

We did an all day tour with Navtech. There are many companies that provide tours, this was selected randomly on line.
