One thing we have experienced is that National Forest Campgrounds with no services are 1/2 price with the pass. However in some of the USFS campgrounds there is electricity. For those sites the base price is halved but the upgrade electrical cost is charged in full. So a $20 site with electric becomes a $26 site and your cost can be $10 (1/2 the base) plus $6 for the electric. So $16 instead of $13. YMMV

Other NFS fees....

Like Iowa Dave, we have encountered the upcharge for electric at some NFS campgrounds, well worth it and still a bargain. One time we also got charged a $3 fee for our dog at Horsethief Lake NFS campground near Mt Rushmore. That really surprised us when we drove in, had made reservations months in advance, then were told we had an additional fee when we hadn’t encountered that before in all of our many years of NFS, BLM, and COE camping. We haven’t had one since, either-wonder if the “hosts” were running a little side gig....😉. If so, they made a killing off all of us with pets!

Thanks John (Raspy)

A lot of people seem to assume everyone understands their choice of acronym, and I didn't even know the Corps of Engineers had campgrounds.

MRW I see acronyms IDK, is reading the thread for FOMO, hoping a post will LMK what the acronym means IRL.

It's NBD, IMO IAG.

TNTL,

The concession outfit in the black hills is one of the most unfriendly, incompetent, lazy and snotty operations I have dealt with. This is from experience from South Carolina to Washington and Canada included. The young people we encountered at the Pinery in Ontario Canada as Fee takers and Janitorial personnel were terrific. The crew at Cache de Poudre or whatever it’s named where last years Rocky Mountain Rendezvous was held aren’t going to win the host Oscar either.
