First Trip Report (We're Hooked!)

Hi All,

First, thanks to everyone on this forum for being so helpful and friendly! I lurked for a year looking and learning before purchasing a 1995 Casita FD 16'. Got it home about 4 weeks ago slowly prepped it for - our first RV camping trip!

We left Southern MA on 8/8 and headed north to Hermon, Maine where we stayed at Pumpkin Patch RV Resort. We were in site 40, a back-in site with full hookups. We got in at 10:45 at night and tried to be quiet while setting up for the first time. Big stress! Slept wonderfully and woke to rain. It would rain all day, but undeterred we set about arranging the Casita for a 3 night stay.

After getting the egg set, we decided that rather than make breakfast we would just go over to the little restaurant next to the campground. After that, we drove to Bangor and explored for a while. Came back to the campground and I made dinner in the Casita. Slept well again and awoke to - beautiful, bright sunlight!

I made breakfast, after which we headed to Acadia National Park. Beautiful, breathtaking views and a good long hike on the Southwest Trail of Cadillac Mountain took up a good portion of the day. After that, it was a quick trip to Bar Harbor for ice cream and a walk by the ocean. Then back to Pumpkin Patch, where I made dinner again. Slept well again. We actually like the standard Casita cushions and may not add memory foam.

The next morning was beautiful, but it was time to pack up. We got everything set and then dumped tanks for the first time. Looked like a Marx Brothers sketch, but we got it done.

Headed home talking about how much fun that had been. The Casita was wonderful. No regrets. Pumpkin Patch is a very nice little Resort. The hosts and staff all deserve 10's for hospitality and friendliness. The grounds and facilities were 100% spotless and it was quiet at night. We would stay there again.

So where to next? Looks like Vermont!

Hope to see other FGRV'ers out there.

We loved Acadia and the cg on the "island".

Yay! I love hearing "first night" FGRV camp stories.

We lived in Boston for 6 years (native San Franciscans) and loved it! We had some terrific tent camping/hiking experiences in Maine; Acadia, Bar Harbor and Bangor were among our favorites. I'll never forget canoeing and seeing a moose for the first time. Now that we're back in California and are FGRV owners I'd love to take a cross-country trip to re-visit our old stomping grounds.

Welcome to the forum! 'Looking forward to hearing about other amazing adventures!

And Another Thing

Forgot to mention...

When we were leaving, we stopped at a truck stop to get some supplies for the trip. Two people stopped us and mentioned how much they liked the trailer. We asked if they wanted a tour and they took a quick look. While this was happening, more people were stopping by and eventually we had 10 people asking us about the Casita. Good stuff!

Also, at the last toll in Maine, the woman at the toll booth said, "I like that trailer. It's different and really cute!" Made us smile.
