Before the Oregon Gathering we want to stay at Fort Stevens State Park for a few nights.

Does anyone have preferences on where to camp there? We do not use sewer, like quiet, sort of private. I was wondering if the loops down by Coffenbury lake have lots of families and machines that like to get out on the sand.

Thinking that north loops E, F. G might be more our style?

Also some sites do not come up on the reservation system. Are there some sites that one can not reserve?

Thanks for any suggestions. Nancy in Northern MN

Most loops are closed during the "discovery season", which ends April 30th. I stayed there last January without a reservation. Resverve America doesn't tell the whole story. I suggest that you call Ft Stevens directly.

There's lots of good things to do and see in the area. Have fun.

Can't remember which loops (it's such a huge park) but we liked the loops to the right of the main entrance better than the ones to the left. The ones to the right had more trees and were more private.

Oops, I misread the orginal post, was thinking Northern Oregon Gathering rather than the Oregon Gathering. I can't answer which best, but I would be inclined to get a ways from the registration area. There are way too many things to do and see in Ft. Stevens area to spend a lot of time in camp.
