From Kelowna to St. Johns

My partner and I are on a trip Eastbound from Kelowna BC to St. John's NL

Are you driving the TransCanada Hwy? that is an accomplishment in itself.
Check out the Amethyst Mines just north of Thunder Bay, ON.
On the "Rock" (AKA Newfoundland) the drive to the northern tip + Lanse Aux Meadows is full of interesting places. Watch out for "Newfoundland Speed Bumps". Signal Hill, Cape Spear is the Easternmost point in North America.

Just spent a couple of days in Calgary visiting friends and family.
There is a brewery here in Inglewood called cold garden beverage company. Very radical place and also dog friendly!

Hi May I suggest you join CAA if you don't already have a membership. This organization can provide maps, trip planing sheets/routes ,(to avoid construction areas etc ) They have many tourist brochures folders as well ! Road side assistance is a plus too. Enjoy your trip and always do a safety check often when traveling to ensure all is well ! Duane in New Brunswick.

Heya, on Miller lake on the Bruce peninsula now. What a great place!
We most definitely have CAA and have even had to use it to tow our Jeep and Boler last year after the belt blew because of a seized AC. (1 belt connects everything)

Superior Lake, we spent more than 10 days around the 5 lakes during August 2017. Should be there again sometimes later.

East of Winterpeg (Winnipeg); detour North-East to Whiteshell Provincial Park; likely the best kept secret in Canada.

Either Otter Falls or Nutimik Lake Provincial Park Campgrounds are excellent.

Literally Heaven, in the area; Great Scenery; great Sunsets; great area to explore.

Quite the trip. We just went from vancouver to quebec city and back through niagara and the i90
Highly recommended to go through the us. We really liked wisconsin north dakota and montana. Be sure to see parliament when in ottawa. Take the tour. Be in line for tickets very early. Old montreal. Meh. Old quebec. Wow.

On a separate note how long are you taking for the trip. Ours was 4 weeks including stops. I could have (should have except that i have work to go back to) taken 6

So far a great trip, saw the parliament in Ottawa, found a nice free campsite "silver falls" outside Thunder Bay and have driven next to those oceans we call the great lakes!

Right now we are amongst old Town Montreal and eating poutine. I'm more impressed by waking around the surrounding neighborhoods and checking out the old style houses / chalets more so than the downtown. Definitely looking forward to old Quebec and will be driving through the US on the way back.

Our trip is going to be roughly 9 weeks, started end of August. Luckily we don't have to start work until December but we do want to try and outrun the frost!

There is a jewish deli on main str called schwarzs deli. Best montreal smoked meat ever. Little pricey but the long lineup tells you uts worth every penny

If you drive from Montreal to Quebec City and like the country side, you can drive on 138 between Trois-Rivières and Quebec City, you will see a lot of old houses dating back from the french colony. Same thing along 132 on the south shore of the St. Lawrence east of Quebec City (eastward from Levis).

And of course the Old Quebec City is nothing like the old Montreal, or anything else in north america for that matter. Don't miss it.

Well Quebec has come and gone and was a great experience. Very nice to see all the old buildings, brush up on the language and all food related things.

Trip highlights were
mountain biking at sentiers du moulin. Great cross country and downhill trails that are well maintained and super fun.
-Experiencing a maple slathered breakfast for dinner at an erabliere (maplery).
-Exploring and soaking in the Seabreeze at the forillon national park on the gaspe peninsula
-Bagles and pastries......
And much more!

Weather has been decent so far except for last night's frost as a warning to bundle up further.

Currently free camping at a provincial park in Nova Scotia contemplating day hikes and backpacking trips for the next couple of weeks.

As campers travelling on a shoestring, we respectfully find our solitude at many free camping areas and try to avoid camp fees as much as possible. iOverlander is a great resource for such.
