New Campfire Ban Imposed
PORTLAND - Due to extreme fire conditions, a campfire ban is being imposed on all state and federal lands in parts of Oregon and Washington.
The ban begins at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, August 16 and affects the Malheur, Umatilla and Wallowa National Forests. It also includes Bureau of Land Management lands in the Burns District and all Oregon State Parks in the Northeast Oregon ODF protection area.
The ban prohibits the building and tending of open camp fires, including charcoal briquettes, cooking fires and warming fires. Pressurized gas stoves and space-heating devices will still be allowed.
Smoking is allowed only in enclosed vehicles, buildings and developed recreation sites. Firewood cutting is not allowed.
