Grayton Beach State Park

Our Scamp renovation is not quite complete, but by golly, it was time to use it! So we towed it down to Grayton Beach State Park on the Florida panhandle.

After years of camping on Atlantic beaches, we were very taken with the gulf coast, especially the region surrounding the park.

Stunning white sand beaches with some interesting eateries and shops all strung out on a 15 mile stretch of scenic two lane (FL 30-A), paralleled by a paved bike path. We will return!

Thanks for the pics.
I'll have to try that some time when we visit the grandkids in Florida.

We are usually there in the fall. A great vacation, just as you describe!

We bicycled to Topsail during our stay at Grayton. It looked like a very nice campground - and we liked the way car traffic was restricted on the road to the beach front.

A question for those of you who are familiar with that area - how cold does it tend to get over the winter holidays - would that be decent time to camp there?

I'm not from there but have watched the weather there the last couple Christmas breaks and thought about it. I've seen a lot of highs in the 50s, with occasional bursts up to around 70. Weather Underground site has seasonal averages you can look up... Weather Forecast & Reports - Long Range & Local | Wunderground | Weather Underground .... look up a city nearby and scroll way down the page.

Mike, thanks for the tip!

Judging by the link you provided, late December - early January looks decent. Hmmm....

Maybe we'll see you down there.

We have been at Grayton Beach quite a bit in Feb and March. It can get pretty cold and some days the moist south wind off the gulf makes fog along the coast, while its sunny and ten degrees warmer inland.

It's a beautiful spot but its just too far north to be dependably nice in the winter. We camped there the last week of March 2013 and had a couple of days of lows in the 30s and highs in the low 50s. Took four days to warm up to 70.

We had reservations at Topsail and Henderson last February, actually had reservations all over Florida that month, but cancelled them all to stay on the coast in southern Georgia. Kind of regret doing that. Will try again this year. We did find some good you tube videos on some of the campgrounds. Someone rode a bike all around Topsail filming the sites. Some videos are useless, just show their own site, but there are a few good ones to be found.

Most of the posts for the last five weeks of out camping blog, www.wanderingourway.wordpress.com are about the Florida panhandle, specifically Panama City Beach, Grayton Beach and Pensacola.
