So far in Portland we have been camping in my friend's driveway and enjoying all the comforts of not being on the road. Today we will jump on the train and head downtown. We plan on hitting Powell's Books and the science museum. Tomorrow the physics teacher conference that I am actually here for begins. While we're here we'd like to head for the coast and will stop by Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood. If anyone has other suggestions for 5 yo twin girls please let us know.

Also took a trip to Camping world for a new water pump and leveling jacks. Found that we can get them from amazon for about half the price.

If you head out to the coast one of my fav spots is Nehalem Bay State park. Make sure you pick up a kite before heading out though.

Cool Astoria

The Astoria bridge is pretty impressive.

Have arrived back in southern Utah after a nice stay in Portland, OR. Got to OMSI and Powell's books as well as the Oregon Zoo. My wife and kids went out to Tillamook and the coast while I was at the physics teachers meeting. On the way out of town we camped at Mt. Hood and spent some time at the timberline lodge. The drive through the gorge was easy and beautiful.

We stopped at the Idaho Discovery Center in Boise and it was a very pleasant surprise. Lots of great interactive activities and solid science. Much better than OMSI or the big ones in Denver or Columbus, OH.

My wife put the new water pump in the Scamp and it is amazing. Quiet, fast, efficient. The old pump had terribly noisy bearings and ran for so long I thought there must be a leak somewhere. Turns out the problem was the pump itself. Water system seems great now.

We did have a mishap with the wind pulling the (unstaked) awning up over the camper. The material ripped and one of the supports was bent. My wife says she can stitch it and we should be able to unbend the support.

FYI The US Ski Team trains on Palmer Glacier on Mt Hood in the summer.
Palmer is NOT for the beginner.

Apologies for the lack of updates. We just completed the nine week, 7000 mile trip and I can declare that it was a huge success. We finished at the Peach Music Festival in Scranton, PA. Boy was that a different kind of camping. We were packed into a gravel parking lot with huge trailers, most of which had generators running constantly. Music and people were good though. For those interested, pics can be found here and blog here.

Thanks for all the suggestions and such!
