Hi,

We are contemplating where to go for our weeks holiday from Oct 4-13 and were thinking of driving 7 hours south to the Hershey Pennsylvannia fall swap meet of antique cars and car stuff. Is anyone else going? And has anyone camped in the area that would have any recommendations on where to camp or where to stay away from?

Thanks,

Phil

We usually camp right on the grounds of the meet. Hershy Corporation sets up camping areas beside the flea market grounds. HershyCo tends to pack the trailers in fairly tightly (no awnings allowed). The last few years we have parked right across the street from the Giant Center arena. It sure is convenient for bringing parts back or for a mid-afternoon nap. There are no services other than portapotties. Showers are available at the HersheyCo maintenance building near the old arena.

There is a full service campground about a mile west on Hwy 39 - Highmeadow Campground. We have never stayed there but it looks nice and it does have a dumping station available.

We won't be camping this year. A friend who has a motel room can't go this year. He has offered it to us so he won't lose it for next year. Hershey is a great meet and highly recommended to anyone with an interest in old autos. The Saturday morning car show is always a treat. For any first timers, remember that the meet ends on Saturday. Also remember to pack for all weather conditions from snow to rain (traditional) to weather in the 80's. Always enjoyable.

Thanks for the info Will, sounds like camping on the site is similar to camping onsite at the Barrie Flea market. I think the High Meadow campground 2 miles away or another we found online about 6 miles away in Elizabethtown will probably suit us better. We were thinking of taking a few days to drive the 700 km there and attending on either the Wednesday or the Thursday and then meandering home. Should be a little warmer to the south at that time of year than heading north for our hols.

Phil - Though the event starts Wednesday, we find that there are quite a few vendors who do not arrive until late Wednesday. By Thursday everything is in full swing. Also, you may want to allow more than one day, as it is much larger than Barrie,
