Highlands Hammock S.P.

This was our second expedition in our Casita 17' SD since we purchased it last month. This is one of our favorite state parks in Florida, although it's been quite a few years since we tent camped here.

The weather was great, a little rain when we first arrived, but not enough to affect set up. Sunny skies for both days, and a nice breeze kept the mosquitoes at bay. This was our first trip with our Clam Escape screen house, but we could have managed without it. The set up is ridiculously easy, and we got almost as many queries about it as our Casita.

I didn't see any other FG trailers while we were camping, but a couple of present and past Casita owners checked in - Ed from Kansas (who now lives in nearby Sebring) and Vince from Lake Placid. Vince invited us to stop by on our way back home to check out his Little Snoozy. He and his wife Angie were very gracious and he is an FG expert.

This park is a treasure, great for hiking and biking and it's a botanist's dream with a variety of habitats - cypress swamp, hardwood hammock and pinelands. Our campsite was woodpecker central, we watched pileated, red-bellied and sapsuckers working on some dead pine trees in our backdoor.

This will be my first time posting pictures on this site, if they don't appear immediately below I'll add them in a separate comment.

The CCC museum is very cool, my late uncle worked in a CCC camp in Mississippi so I've always had an interest. We were recently at FD Roosevelt SP in Georgia, and they have the identical bronze sculpture of a CCC worker.

Different strokes for different folks, I find the trees in a cypress swamp as awe inspiring in their own way as the California redwoods.

Highlands Hammock is where the SOI (Scamp Owners International) has their annual meet each February. We were there about 4 years ago.
A great Tram tour to observe the 'gators. et al.

We camped there for the first time last month - great for the kids, the history and beauty were astonishing! Definitely a must for Fl campers
