Keokuk Iowa Area

My sweetie and I are going to be taking a trip down to SE Iowa around Keokuk this weekend to hunt geodes. I'll have my trusty old copy of "The Fabulous Keokuk Geodes" by Stephen R. Sinotte.

Any suggestions for camping down in that neck of the woods?

I just did a quick search of the area and Hickory Haven Campground looks promising (Good Sam member camp), with good reviews from Trailer Life and about 6 miles from Keokuk. They stay open until Dec. 1, which is good because a lot of small campgrounds in Iowa close mid-to late October. The city of Keokuk also has a campground, but it is all primitive camping.

Gee, I went to college near there, Fairfield, Iowa- Parson's College back in the 60's and when a tornado came thru Keokuk we students went down and volunteered our help.

Grew up in Fort Madison, North of Keokuk, and found geodes in most of the cricks. Geode state park had a mother load of them.
