Lakehead Boat Basin, Duluth, MN

Last week I spent a night at Lakehead Boat Basin in Duluth, MN. I was overnighting and had read about this very small (18 sites) RV option. It is located 3 blocks from Canal Park (waterfront shopping, restaurants, museum, etc). For me the RV option was fine. You are right in the marina watching boats go by while the aerial bridge goes up and down.

The weather was too chilly and cold for me to walk to Canal Park but I would definitely try it again if I were to be in the area again.

I will say that I do not think it would be an option for a family with small children. You are parking in parking spaces on asphalt and there is open water very, very close. I did stay hitched as there were only a few trailers but the space is so small I would say that most times it would require all trailers to unhitch.

Used to live in Duluth from 69-72. My father was posted there with the Canadian Air Force with Norad. I used to go to school about 6 blocks from the bridge. Park Point was very nice to walk in the summer. The worst snow storm I have been in was in Duluth with 24" of snow in 6 hrs and it was thundering and lightning the whole time!

Interesting views. I like the trailer-matching white of your Highlander, too.

Hi: Ms. Gayle... Now you've gone and let "The cat out of the bag". LoL... We stayed there the night before delivering "Our Escape Hatch" to new owners in Manitoba. It was pouring and muddy at the nearest State Pk. so we found the parking space camping dry and clean... but the ships horns started hooting at 7am!!! There were still iceburg's under the lift bridge in the harbour

As Alf says the horns and whistles are a hoot. We stayed there for four nights in June. Cool temperatures but what a great place to watch boats and shipping. One evening we were entertained with a symphony of horns from a large ship coming into the harbor, the tender on the bridge and the tourist railroad located in Duluth. With the hills in the background the echos were great.
