Maiden Voyagette: Kayak Point County Park

Took my sweet Boler, named Bitza, for her first little trip.

This park is less than 45 minutes north of Seattle, and has yurts, tent sites and small RV sites. My site had a maximum of 18' for the trailer, which was perfect for us! It was a pull through which I wanted for my first time out.

The trip was with a group of families who all know each other--everyone but me was camping or in the yurts--they have a cute little "village" of 8 or so yurts all with a central eating area and a number of fire pits.

The beach has a nice play area; the campground is on a bluff and there are numerous paths that meet up to the many stairs down to the beach. You can also drive down and park if you'd like.

We had a grand adventure! I went with my 13 year old and our dog, and my husband came up for the day. We did quite a bit of eating in bed and spent lots of time at the beach. We even saw a mermaid! A seal swam by in front of us just as the ice cream truck stopped behind us.

One of the other moms grew up with a trailer and her dad still belongs to the trailer club. She said they had a tradition: whenever anyone in the club brought a new trailer to a campout, all the families would gather at the back and slap the sides calling out "shimmy, shimmy shimmy." The new owner would invite everyone in for a tour and have treats. The last morning they all did that and I served blueberry pancakes. We fit over 15 people in to the camper! It was a nice way to celebrate!

My daughter and the dog ended up going home with friends and so I had my first night on my own, and hitched up and drove home on my own as well. It went very smooth, in fact so smoothly that the wrench I accidentally left on the back bumper at the dump station was still there when I got home.

Lots of nice folks helped me at the dump station and also at the truck stop diner where I had her weighed. 2,360 pounds ready to camp, but without clothes, water, tools, etc. But with a wrench on the back bumper! I did a walk around and everything but it was black and blended in.

Here are some photos:

Sounds like a great beginning- great place and a fun group of people! "Shimmy, shimmy, shimmy"... Never heard that one before.

Kayak Point

Wow! Congrats on your maiden voyage. We just missed you by leaving the 23rd. Nice park especially mid week. From the reservation signs it appeared full for the weekend. Looks like we'll see you at the NOG.

Sounds like you had great fun on the first trip
Here is a tip for you!
I am a female solo traveler. I have 3 or 4 tools that I regularly use when camping. I purchased pink duct tape and wrapped the handles of the tools so I notice them laying about when I make my final walk around.

Deadhead look forward to meeting you!

Heading down Thursday, looks like the rain will be joining us.

Glad others have enjoyed Kayak Point, it's a sweet spot.

Thanks Gayle for the tip, it's amazing still I didn't notice the tool but if it had stood out more I likely would've seen it. Will have to find some cool tape.
