Talking More boondocking! Alabama Hills, Lone Pine, CA

Hey folks! I spent a couple of days exploring the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, CA and had a really great time there! The area is BLM land and there's free camping everywhere if you're willing to do a little dirt driving. It sits at the base of Mt. Whitney and the views and privacy are awesome! Here's a vid I shot there.... it starts a little abruptly.... sorry about that!

Happy travels to you all!

Matt

Thanks for a peek at these beautiful boondocking areas, Matt. 395 is a very scenic route down the eastern side of the Sierras and and we'd like spend more time exploring around there.

Brings back memories of our trip there in June. We drove through those hills in our 2WD pickup and it was fun imagining that I was hiding behind the same rocks as the Lone Ranger. The Lone Pine film history museum is a great place to visit to get some background on all the films that were filmed in the Alabama hills, plus some history of why they were named the Alabama hills.
We were prepared to boondock there if there weren't any sites available at the Lone Pine NFS campground (didn't want to pay the extra $9 reservation fee) but they had plenty of first come first serve sites available with the senior/access discount.
Thanks for the video.

Great pics! The film history in the area is really fascinating and the museum is a great place to learn about it before venturing out. Thanks for checking out the vid!

Alabama Hills threw me. You go boondocking in the real Alabama hills right now........bring lots of eggs. They will cook quickly and your propane will last for weeks.

Heck, you could probably do bacon too.

Matt,

Any idea what the Alabama Hills might be like in February? Too cold and windy?
